Claremont Landscape Garden
Esher, Elmbridge

An 18th-century garden shaped by Vanbrugh, Bridgeman, William Kent and Capability Brown, once a royal retreat for Princess Charlotte and later bought by Queen Victoria. Paths lead round a serpentine lake to a grass amphitheatre, a grotto and the Belvedere Tower.
Highlights
- Three-acre turf amphitheatre with views over the lake
- Two natural play areas, including Badger's Basecamp for older children
- Camellia Terrace, in flower from January to May
- Seasonal family trails, including a Christmas elf trail
Good to know
- Dogs on short leads are welcome in most areas and inside the cafe, but not in the play areas or the lake
- Leave bikes, scooters and balls at home because of steep paths and open water
- The 714 and 715 buses stop outside; show a bus ticket for £1 off in the cafe

Elfmas at Claremont Landscape Garden
Children find out whether they have what it takes to be an official Christmas elf on a trail around Claremont's lake. They get an elf name, track down Father Christmas's reindeer and do some elf fitness training.
