How we choose and check

What gets included

Places and events are included because they are worth a visit for someone in Surrey, not because anyone has paid. Free listings are open to any business that is genuinely useful to visitors.

How facts are checked

Dates, prices, ages and facilities come from the venue's or organiser's own website, or from an authoritative source such as the National Trust, English Heritage, a theatre box office or the local council. Each listing shows the date it was checked and links to the sources. Descriptions are written in our own words.

If a fact cannot be confirmed, it is left out rather than guessed. Events whose dates are not yet confirmed are kept unpublished, and events drop off the site automatically once they end.

Events reach us in two ways: organisers submit them, and an automated reader checks venues' and organisers' own what's on pages every week. An AI assistant checks each event, flags missing details and writes the listing in our own words, using only facts from the official page. In Surrey, an event is published automatically only when every check passes: the official page confirms its name and date, its postcode is in the county and it is not already listed. Anything else waits for me, and I review a sample of automatic listings regularly.

Paid placements and clients

Nobody pays to appear on To Do in Surrey at the moment. If a business ever pays for extra promotion, it will be labelled Featured partner, its links will carry a sponsored attribute, and payment will never change the facts we publish or buy a place in our editorial lists. Some places listed here are clients of my agency, Boostkit. Nobody pays to appear on the site, and I choose which places and events to spotlight.

Photos

Photos come from three places, and every one is credited. Some are shared by the venues themselves or by featured partners. Many are openly licensed photographs from Wikimedia Commons and Geograph, credited to the photographer with their licence. Where a venue publishes a preview image for sharing its page, we may show that image directly from the venue's own website, credited and linked back; we never copy or re-host it. If you own an image and would like it changed or removed, tell me and I will do it straight away.

Tracking links

Links to venues include tags that tell the venue the visit came from To Do in Surrey. They do not identify you personally.

Our AI guide

Doodle is an AI assistant. It searches the same checked listings you see on the site and is instructed never to invent venues, prices, dates or opening times. It can still make mistakes, so always confirm details with the venue. Conversations are not used to build a profile of you.
