The largest of the four Banstead Commons at 760 acres, a mix of heath, acid grassland meadows and woodland looked after by the Banstead Commons Conservators. More than eight miles of bridle paths and rides cross it, and skylarks breed in the meadows.

Highlights

  • Skylarks in the meadows, especially Mill Field
  • Heather in late summer and fungi in autumn
  • Three medieval stock enclosures
  • Over eight miles of bridle paths

Good to know

  • Keep dogs under control, on a lead if recall is weak, and on the paths from 1 March to 15 September
  • Keep to mown paths in spring and early summer to protect ground-nesting birds
  • Adders live on the heath, so watch where dogs and children explore in summer
